Women's long Hutsul sardak is outerwear typical of Hutsul culture. It is decorated with bright embroidery, tassels and decorative elements that give it a festive look.
Hutsul sardak is made by hand using traditional techniques and materials. The process of its creation includes several main stages:
- Fabric selection
The sardak is sewn mainly from woolen cloth (drapa), which can be black, dark blue or brown. This material is durable and protects well from the cold.
- Cutting and sewing
The craftswoman uses the details of the sardak, usually straight or slightly flared panels. Then they are sewn by hand or on a typewriter, leaving room for decorative elements.
- Decoration
One of the most important stages is decoration. It includes:
Embroidery with laces (yellow, red, green), which forms geometric ornaments.
An applique made of colored woolen threads.
Embroidery, tassels, a patsyog of woven knots are a characteristic feature of the Hutsul sardak.
The Hutsul sardak is not just clothing, but part of the cultural heritage that is passed down from generation to generation.
