Hutsul men's sardak is a traditional outerwear of Hutsuls, which is a characteristic part of their folk costume. It is made of homespun cloth of black or dark color.
Features of the sardak:
Cut: Straight-backed, shorter than a regular coat, with slits on the sides for ease of movement.
Decoration: Has rich decoration with woolen threads, colored embroidery, appliqués and tassels. A feature of the decoration is the use of bright colors, mainly red, yellow, green and blue.
Fasteners: Decorated with buttons, laces or colored tassels.
Collar and cuffs: Lined with colored fabric, and sometimes trimmed with fur.
The sardak performs not only a practical function as warm clothing, but also is a symbol of the social status and skill of its owner. Men wear it for holidays, weddings and important events.
