Zgarda is a necklace of small coins and crosses, strung on wiring or strap. There are a variety of zgardas, for example, in one or several rows of crosses or coins, between which the so-called metallic «peremezhki» in the form of tubes and spirals are strung.

Adornment presented on this page consists of 11 crosses, connected to each other with small mainspring of brass. A metal buckle called «chepraga» is inserted into the handcraft. It is fixed at the angle of 90 degrees. Maltese form crosses are used. They have come to us from ancient times and are known as the first form of crosses found before the birth of Christ. Zgarda is made under the home conditions, where master performs its minting and engraving to give a desired shape.

It is the author's work of the talented master of artistic carving – Orest Oniskiv. His handcrafts of metal are very popular. He embodies in contemporary art casting all his knowledge, inherited from grandfather, the famous master of Ukrainian folk art Roman Strinadyuk, whose works take pride of place in the Ukrainian museums and private collections.
