Iceland moss tea (Latin: Cetraria islandica) is a drink made from dried lichen raw materials, known for its medicinal properties. Iceland moss is not a true moss, but a lichen that grows in northern regions, in particular in Iceland, Scandinavia and the Carpathians.
Useful properties:
1. Anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effect - helps with sore throats, bronchitis, coughs.
2. Softening of mucous membranes - relieves dry coughs, soothes the throat.
3. Immunomodulatory effect - stimulates the immune system.
4. Antibacterial properties - due to the content of usnic acid.
5. Improving digestion - used for gastritis, ulcers, stomach problems.
How to brew:
Classic method:
1 tsp. dried Icelandic moss pour 250 ml of boiling water,
infuse under a lid for 10–15 minutes,
strain and drink warm 2–3 times a day.
Decoction for severe cough:
1 tbsp. l. moss pour 300 ml of cold water,
bring to a boil, boil for 5 minutes,
strain, drink warm 100 ml 3 times a day.
Contraindications:
Individual intolerance.
