Zgarda is an ancient Hutsul pagan adornment, also serving to its owner as a talisman. Zgardas are witness of unique ancient traditions of the Carpathian people, they reflect the perception of the world of this proud mountain people. The mysterious word "Zgarda" is used for the name of an ancient Carpathian adornment in the form of unpaired number of crosses, which are strung on a metal wire. A large central cross was given as a present to a six-year girl, next smaller crosses were given and it was necessary them to be pair. They were located on the sides of the main cross. This jewelry-amulet symbolized the social status of its owner. The richer was the adornment of crosses, the wealthier was family and its position in society.  

Bronze zgarda 4 х4 (ЗБ 01-40) is cast of metal under the home conditions with following engraving and incusing. The form of the product (Maltese cross) and is considered one of the first forms of the cross known to mankind. The cross is attached to the thread of wire, on which the beads of ceramic coral are strung. This zgarda is made by the famous master-mosjazhnik Orest Oniskiv that is a grandson of the famous masters of necklaces zgardas – Roman Strinadyuk.
