Bronze zgarda 35х25 (ЗБ 01-19)

It is worth to emphasize zgarda among the neck adornments of religious purpose. It consists of cast crosses and other elements of bronze or copper are strung on wires or special string. Crosses can be strung in single or several rows. A special feature of the ancient Hutsul adornment is the presence of springs, spirals or tubes, by which all of the elements in the product are connected together. The most striking accent in the handcraft is a central cross. Usually it is emphasized, for example, with so-called «chepragas» (two commonly round plates decorated with embossed or filigree ornament).

The zgarda presented on this page of the website zgarda.com.ua has a rich appearance, it includes several elements, among which are a big central cross, frame, medallions, angel, elements with solar signs and chepragas. In total there are 19 elements connected by springs made of brass. As a snap master used chepraga that is fixed at 90 degrees angle. Metal parts of the handcraft are cast, minted and engraved under the home conditions.     

The author – Orest Oniskiv – is a famous mosjazhnik (that means master of the artistic carving in Hutsul language), the grandson of the honored master of folk art Roman Strinadyuk. The craftsman is known in the circles of artists and masters all over Ukraine, and its products are in great demand among the grateful customers.
