Bronze zgarda 5х2,5 (ЗБ 01-17)

On this page you can see an original article from the group of Hutsul articles of bronze, the author's work of Orest Oniskiv, the grandson of the famous Ukrainian master of artistic metalwork Roman Strinadyuk. Articles made by Orest are very popular among connoisseurs of this Hutsul craft, and his is not surprising, because he has kept the traditions of his people in handmade zgardas and crosses.

The manufacturing technology of this zgarda consists in the casting bronze cross under the home conditions, its minting and engraving. The finished cross is strung on a thread from a ceramic coral. Since ancient times it was common practice to present such cross to a 6 years old girl for a birthday and every following year she was brought as a gift two more crosses. In this way, over the years the girl had a zgarda with an odd number of elements of bronze.    

It should be noted that in the Hutsul region it can be seen Maltese crosses in zgardas that are known to mankind as pre-Christian. Nowadays, vintage accessories are coming back to fashion, among which are the very popular handmade crosses, cast by Hutsul masters.
