Internet store «Zgarda» offers to get acquainted with a collection of the Carpathian national adornments, called «zgarda» that have come to us from antiquity, pre-Christian times, when people worshiped pagan gods. In those days for the powerful Knights as well as for ordinary people a cross served as a special symbol, meaning the harmony of human with the world.
Famous Hutsul masters used this symbol in their works. The Teutonic or Maltese cross is often used in the handcrafts. The ancient craftsmanship of bronze casting was passed down from generation to generation and was a family business that was being perfected over the centuries. Orest Oniskiv is one of the great masters of the ancient craft of bronze casting, a representative of the so-called masters « mosjazhniks». It is a much respected profession among Ukrainian craftsmen.
The zgarda «ЗБ 01-15» (5х2,5сm) is cast of bronze in a form of so-called Maltese cross, has an original ancient shape with a crucifix in the center. The cross is attached to the metal wire and decorated with ceramic corals. Casting of bronze, its incusing and engraving is made under the home conditions. Such jewelry is a talisman for its owner and is worn with the national costume.
