Embroidered towel 32x200 (RV 01-08)

In ancient times, the mention of towels is found in the period of Kievan Rus. Embroidery on towels symbolized fertility and wealth. They were used to wrap trees during religious ceremonies and sacrifices. Ancient ceremonial towels were called "ubrus" and have retained their meaning to this day. In some areas of Polissya, ancient customs were observed until the end of the 20th century.

The ritual significance of the Ukrainian embroidered towel is very wide: it was used to bless marriages and good deeds, it was used to decorate images, bread was placed on the towel. Famous Carpathian hand-embroidered craftsmen master the technique of embroidering complex patterns using traditional thread colors. Basically, this is a combination of red and black, as well as yellow and green shades.
