Women’s gerdan 48х6 (ГЖ 01-01)

Very common in the XIX-XX centuries gerdans was favorite pectorals of the Slavic women. Nowadays they are unfairly forgotten, only because of Hutsul craftswomen fashion for wearing gerdan revives again.

Traditional ethnic jewelry of Ukrainian women with the image of geometric and floral ornaments is made of beads. Once, ornaments were created by craftswomen during the process of observing nature. With the help of ornament, they expressed their vision of the world, the relationship with nature and the environment. Today gerdans are braided by hand or on the machine tool and can be solid or reticulate. The basis for braiding is an ordinary fishing line or a very sturdy silk thread. High-quality Czech beads are used to give gerdan a beautiful look.

Women’s gerdan «ГЖ 01-01» is a hand work and made of the Czech beads of several colors, which were threaded on fishing line or a very sturdy silk thread. The dominant color is red. The accent is in the central part of the gerdan, where a red flower, symbolizing the fertility of the land is depicted over the white color rhombus. A little higher there are two similar rhombuses with a little flower. Decoration will fit to the national costume and modern clothes.
