An essential attribute of any house are icons. But together with them we can often notice decorated plates as a protective amulet. Usually they are honorable installed on a prominent place. It can be a place opposite the entrance to the room or above the entrance door. It is believed that in this place the outside world come into direct contact with the inner world of the house. Our ancestors have sincerely believed that this amulet will protect their home from negative circumstances that exist outside the house. Such decorative plate was not an icon, it was not an object of worship, it just performed its duties – guarded home from troubles and misfortunes. People believed in the power of amulets, passed them down from generation to generation, they were given as a symbol of protection and everyone was assured of their power.

Hutsul pottery is famous for such cult amulets that are made of ceramic by hand with an inimitable art ornament. Most of the handcrafts are a single author's work, so these goods have a high aesthetic value.
